Tasks Performed by AMSAR:
- We can accurately search roads and tracks/trails in designated areas. Approximate range without resupply is 50 km from search headquarters using 4-man patrols, in areas a four-wheel drive or an average motorcyclist could not reliably access
- Provide accurate mapping detail of search areas using g.p.s units and computer mapping. This gives search coordinators accurate intelligence. The resulting database can be passed on to other emergency services on an on-going basis so they maintain accurate intelligence on difficult-to-access areas within their jurisdiction
- Provide communications in difficult areas by relaying from elevated positions which can be accessed quickly by skilled riders. These positions can double as observation posts, however their most important task is relaying information back to civilisation/HQ by Sat/phone and UHF radio. These teams can be static and have the ability to stay in position for 48 hours without resupply
- Individual AMSAR members can act as runners for the search coordinator when communications are lost with search teams, or when they require a position to be checked or contacted quickly, - for example, after being seen from the air
- Provide search perimeter patrols to contain a search. These patrols can leave calling cards along their route advising that a patrol shall come back to this position with in X-hours. Perimeter patrols can cover ground at an average rate of 20 km per hour in most terrain and can operate in any conditions in day or night (where the first patrol was conducted in daylight)
- Our non-riding support members provide support and resupply to all search teams
- Extended file search for semi dense terrain
