AMSAR welcomes male and female members who meet these requirements, and who are capable of following orders when and where necessary. You must also be a current member of Motorcycling Australia or become a member of Motorcycling Australia for your legals/insurance.

Motorcycle Rescue Rider Equipment List - Field Equipment (Essential)
- Motor bike in good mechanical condition - good tyres
- Minimum rider safety equipment required: helmet, motorcycle boots, gloves and goggles
- Hydration pack (camelbak or similar) with minimum 3 litres storage capacity
- Light first aid kit, pressure bandage, small bag of tissues
- Lighter
- Safety vest
- Small torch / petzel - strobe
- Leatherman or similar multi-tool
- Sunglasses and soft wide brimed hat
- Space / thermal blanket
- otepad and pen/pencil
- Spare tube and spark plug
- Bush tools (bum bag or rear guard mounted bag) for repairs
- $20 cash
Field Equipment (If Possible) Within Team - Goal Is For All Members To Have This Equipment
- U.H.F radio 5 watt with speaker mike, two per team
- G.P.S with fresh batteries and spare batteries, two per team, map
- Strobe light, 1 per team
- Hand flare, 2 per team
- Bush saw and tow strap, 2 per team
- Full medical kit 1 per team
- Mobile phone, cdma or cdma / satellite in aqua pack
- Small binoculars - two per team
Essential Equipment To Remain At Search Headquarters
- 20 Llitres of water
- 20 Litres of premium fuel
- Battery chargers 240 VAC and 12 volts DC for radios and phones
- Swags
- Chairs
- Plate, Bowl, Cup, Knife, Fork Spoon
- Rain coats
- Hiking boots
- Spare cloths, include a warm jacket
- Toiletries, insect repellent, toilet paper
- Garbage bags
Preferred Camp Equipment Shared Amongst Teams Team Leaders And Operations
Commander will advise who has the following equipment and ask them to bring it
- Generator, 20 litres fuel, power leads, power boards (wide spaced sockets for chargers and plug packs), lighting (fluro’s and flood’s)
- Table, lap top with mapping software, white board and markers
- radio log book
- Quick shade or tarp with post, ropes, pegs etc
- Shovel, axe, hammer
- Maintenance box for bike with coolant, oil, handlebars, chain links, chain, air filter oil, etc
- Esky and food box, washing up gear
- Maps of the area with map case
| Non-Riding Volunteers are required for the following | |
- Headquarters radio operators
- Resupply drivers (vehicle supplied, or own vehicle considered)
- Training staff / Instructors
- Headquarters liaison officers and amsar search coordinators
- Fund raising coordinators
Amsar organises regular training rides in each district to provide members with skills and knowledge in search and rescue (SAR) operations. The rides also develop unity within teams and across the organisation, and participation at any level rewards volunteers with a sense of achievement, new skills, leadership abilities, comradeship and many ride challenges.
